Why are backflow devices installed?
A backflow device prevents the reverse flow of potentially contaminated water into the reticulated water supply.

What do they do?
- They prevent contamination of the main water supply.
- They stop sewage from being sucked back into the drinking water.
- They prevent chemicals from irrigation systems from entering the water supply.
- They inhibit pool water from re-entering the water supply.
Why do they need to be tested?
To make sure they are functioning correctly. To ensure the correct device is used for the application. It is a mandatory requirement that all backflow valves are tested annually and the reports sent to your local council. Testing of backflow devices can only be carried out by a licensed plumber who is endorsed to undertake such work.
